The Sr Manager, Trader Private Client Services (PL) is responsible for leading, developing, and overseeing the Trader Private Client Services organization while delivering a differentiated, high‑touch experience for Schwab’s most sophisticated, engaged, and highest‑revenue retail trader clients.

This role carries accountability for client retention, risk management, escalation resolution, and asset growth for an ultra‑high‑value client segment ranging from long‑term investors to highly active, complex derivatives traders. The Sr Manager operates as a senior decision‑maker, escalation authority, and trusted partner to Executive Leadership, balancing exceptional client outcomes with firm risk, regulatory obligations, and long‑term relationship sustainability.

In this role, you will:

  • Own the retention strategy for Schwab’s most valuable Retail Trader relationships, mitigating attrition and identifying opportunities for asset growth and consolidation.
  • Serve as escalation authority for complex, high‑risk client situations including significant trading errors, disputes, complaints, and sensitive negotiations.
  • Apply sound judgment in time‑sensitive, high‑leverage situations to balance client experience, firm financial risk, and regulatory considerations.
  • Establish credibility with highly sophisticated trader clients, preserving relationships through clear boundaries, thoughtful communication, and decisive action.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop Trader PCS leaders and associates, ensuring consistent delivery of a premium, personalized client experience.
  • Foster a collaborative, high‑performance culture aligned to Schwab’s core values and business priorities.
  • Design and facilitate training and development focused on advanced trading concepts, client engagement, risk awareness, and professional growth.
  • Drive change management initiatives to support evolving client needs, platform capabilities, and regulatory requirements.
  • Act as a senior liaison between Trader PCS and Executive Leadership, communicating client insights, complaint trends, firm risk exposure, and strategic recommendations.
  • Partner closely with Risk, Product, Marketing, Trading, TRR, and the branch network to resolve escalations and execute targeted retention strategies.
  • Serve as subject‑matter counsel to branch leaders and partners to support asset acquisition, client conversions, and complex client situations.
  • Provide leadership reporting and insights on client behavior, escalations, and emerging trends affecting high‑value trader relationships.
  • Drive proactive, educational outreach strategies designed to deepen client engagement, platform adoption, and long‑term loyalty.
  • Partner with Marketing to design and deliver exclusive, client‑facing events that strengthen relationships and reinforce Schwab’s value proposition.
  • Serve as a decision point for business operations, innovation, and continuous improvement across the Trader PCS program.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and operational procedures while supporting a consistent, high‑quality client experience.

What you have


Required Qualifications:

  • 6 years of brokerage or financial services industry experience.
  • Required Licenses:
    • Series 7 and Series 63 or 66 
    • Series 9 and 10 (or equivalent)
    • Series 3 and Series 34 (required or obtained within 120 days with Condition of Employment)
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Proven ability to exercise sound judgment and decisive leadership during complex market events, balancing client experience, firm risk, and regulatory obligations.
  • Advanced expertise across trading products, platforms, and risk concepts, including:
    • Equity trading, complex options strategies, futures and options on futures, foreign exchange
    • Margin and portfolio margin rules, Greeks, technical analysis, and risk management principles
    • thinkorswim desktop, web, and mobile trading platforms
  • Demonstrated ability to assess a client’s financial situation and engage in portfolio‑level discussions that educate and guide sophisticated traders.
  • Extensive experience making timely decisions in dynamic, high‑pressure, high‑leverage market conditions.
  • Strong business acumen with operational and financial understanding of the brokerage industry, including clearing, supervisory procedures, and client behavior models.
  • Proven leadership and people‑management capability with a track record of developing high‑performing teams, driving change, and fostering a collaborative, client‑focused culture.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate complex trading, risk, and regulatory concepts to clients, leaders, and partners.
  • Strong relationship‑building and negotiation skills, including influencing outcomes with high‑value clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated success in driving business results through client retention, asset growth, and identification of new opportunities.
  • Ability to manage multiple, wide‑ranging initiatives with meaningful impact to revenue, risk, and long‑term business strategy.
  • Military education or experience may be considered in lieu of civilian requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Recognized subject‑matter expertise in advanced trader servicing or trading‑focused leadership roles.
  • Experience partnering with Executive Leadership, Risk, Product, Marketing, and branch organizations.
  • Prior experience leading escalations involving complex options, futures, margin risk, and trading platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to represent leadership in high‑stakes client interactions and in‑person experiential events.

In addition to the salary range, this role is also eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities.
