529 Services is a specialized area within Schwab’s Client Service & Support (CS&S) organization, focused on helping clients achieve their education savings goals through expert guidance on 529 plans. Our vision is to engage financial service professionals who inspire client loyalty by providing tailored solutions and support for the Schwab 529 plan. With a strong emphasis on professional development and collaboration, we help clients and team members reach their goals, building trust one interaction at a time.
As a Senior Team Manager in 529 Services your primary responsibility will be to supervise, coach, and develop a team of 529 Professionals in the conduct of their duties. This position involves leading and developing team members, leading goal-setting sessions and creating action plans for an exceptional client experience as well as guiding each Professional in their individual career planning and progression. As leaders you are expected to excel in B2E (BetterWay 2 Excellence) processes and to be proficient in coaching and developing Professionals. Other areas of responsibility require extensive knowledge of the securities industry, clearing functions, Schwab’s 529 product, and internal policies and procedures.
You will also be expected to widen your view from the micro to the macro, focusing on the service segment as a whole as opposed to just your team. You will be a role model and mentor for the leaders around you. You are expected to deliver top results consistently at the team level while influencing your peers, holding them accountable and supporting them with the best practices and feedback needed to achieve equivalent results. You will take into consideration the broader needs of the organization when making decisions by collaborating with peers and impacted parties along the way.
In this role you will be:
- Providing one-on-one coaching and feedback focused on both client service and career development for 529 Services Professionals.
- Facilitating team meetings and huddles designed to inspire the team to meet and exceed established standards for 529 plan administration and client support.
- Ensuring Professionals meet and exceed service metrics by leveraging monitoring tools, staying informed about call volume forecasts, and responding to market changes that may impact 529 plans.
- Exercising independent decision-making to identify and resolve issues that impact the experience of our clients and our Professionals, using Schwab’s B2E (BetterWay 2 Excellence) methodology.
- Making sound business decisions to reduce legal and HR risk by enforcing firm and business unit policies in client and professional situations.
- Leading through change and uncertainty with a positive attitude, clear communication, and professionalism.
- Actively participating in business initiatives and partnering with product team to drive continuous improvement.
- Executing directives from Senior Leadership and completing tasks in a timely manner.
- Modeling and mentoring leadership behaviors for other managers within 529 Services and CS&S.
- Building trust and respect as a leader among peers and other groups.

Required Qualifications:
- Demonstrated passion for providing client-centric solutions, especially in the context of education savings and 529 plans.

- Experience mentoring other leaders and modeling Schwab’s leadership behaviors across teams and locations.

- Strong leadership and coaching skills with a proven ability to deliver results and develop Professionals.
- Proven ability to deliver top results regardless of team composition or external factors.

- Experience working collaboratively, improving productivity, and implementing process improvements.
- Active FINRA Series 7 & 63 as well as 9 & 10 licenses.
Preferred Qualifications:
- At least 3 years of supervisory/management experience within Schwab’s CS&S organization, with 5 years preferred.
