Sr Manager, Complex Account Team
Your Opportunity
Schwab remains committed to providing increased visibility to career growth opportunities and job requirements. This posting announcement is part of increased transparency and while all qualified applicants will be reviewed and considered, this organization has a preferred candidate identified for this role.
At Schwab, you’re empowered to make an impact on your career. Here, innovative thought meets creative problem solving, helping us “challenge the status quo” and transform the finance industry together.
We believe in the importance of in-office collaboration and fully intend for the selected candidate for this role to work on site in the specified location(s).
As part of the Client Experience and Risk organization, the Business Accommodations Team (BAT) partners with branches and service teams to resolve complex, non-routine client needs when standard channels are not sufficient. Our mandate is to deliver an intuitive, innovative, and differentiated wealth management experience that supports new net asset (NNA) growth and client retention while appropriately managing firm risk.
As a Complex Account Consultant (CAC), you will serve as the lead complex-business consultant for CBST across the Schwab Branch Network, with a primary focus on Schwab Private Wealth Services (SPWS) and the highest-value, complex relationships that come through CBST. You will report to the CBST Senior Team Manager and operate in a relationship-manager and “team-lead” capacity. This role is primarily branch/FC-facing, with selective direct client engagement reserved for the most complex, high-visibility, or high-risk SPWS opportunities.
The Complex Account Consultant is a leadership-development role, ideal for a current Sr. Manager (or equivalent) ready for broader, cross-enterprise impact. You will model ownership, coach peers, and coordinate efforts across BAT teams to make it easier for clients and the field to do business with Schwab while balancing client outcomes with firm risk.
What you’ll do:
- Serve as a consultative partner and primary relationship contact for Financial Consultants, Branch Managers, and SPWS partners on complex business and SPWS-aligned opportunities routed through CBST.
- Act as a “one-stop” point of contact for complex business questions and escalations from the branch network, simplifying how partners navigate CBST and broader BAT capabilities.
- Join select client discussions for elevated, high-value, or high-risk SPWS opportunities when direct CAC engagement will materially improve client experience and decision quality.
- Lead the most complex, high-visibility CBST cases, coordinating with AML/EDD, Risk, Legal, Compliance, and Operations to ensure recommendations and decisions are timely, well-reasoned, and aligned with the firm’s risk appetite and regulatory requirements.
- Provide clear, proactive communication to field partners on case status, required documentation, decisioning rationale, and next steps—setting expectations and closing communication loops.
- Identify trends, gaps, and friction points in complex business workflows and recommend process or policy improvements that enhance ease of doing business for clients and the field.
- Mentor and coach CBST and BAT teammates on complex business topics, modeling sound judgment, structured problem solving, and a client- and field-centric mindset.
- Represent CBST and BAT in regional calls, partner meetings, and training forums to increase awareness and adoption of the complex business support model.
- Support client retention and acquisition opportunities by collaborating with Accommodations (ACOM), Complex Reporting, and other BAT teams on complex escalations and accommodation-adjacent scenarios when appropriate.
- Contribute to cross-functional projects and business initiatives that scale CBST capabilities and support BAT’s strategic objectives related to SPWS and high-value clients.
- Support Retail Institutional Services (RIS) as a subject matter expert on matters related to institutional clients and the products, services, and relationship dynamics they desire.
- Support RIS client complex operational needs through onboarding support, identifying and understanding existing client relationship dynamics, and advocating for a client experience standard commensurate with the Schwab brand.
What you have
Required qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Licenses: Series 7 and Series 63
- 5+ years of experience in complex business support, risk management, or high-touch affluent/high-net-worth client service, preferably in Investor Services or SPWS-aligned roles, or an equivalent combination of related experience
- Demonstrated experience partnering with Financial Consultants, Branch Managers, and cross-functional oversight partners (Risk, Legal, Compliance, AML/EDD, Operations) on complex or escalated cases
- Proven ability to operate as a trusted advisor and relationship manager with strong executive presence, including the ability to synthesize complex information and present clear recommendations to senior leaders
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with sound business judgment in balancing client outcomes, policy requirements, and firm risk for complex scenarios
- Demonstrated leadership behaviors on high-performing teams, including mentoring peers, leading initiatives, influencing without authority, and driving change across teams
- Comfort with ambiguity and the ability to create structure, options, and clarity in dynamic, complex situations
Preferred qualifications:
- Licenses: Series 9 and Series 10 (or equivalent)
- Current Sr. Manager level or equivalent strongly preferred, with clear evidence of readiness for broader, cross-enterprise impact and a desire to grow in a leadership-development role
In addition to the salary range, this role is also eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities.
