Schwab Asset Management (SAM) is the asset management arm of the Charles Schwab Corporation. SAM delivers a wide variety of products including separately managed accounts (SMAs), mutual funds, exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and money market funds. SAM is seeking a Senior Portfolio Manager, Schwab Personalized Indexing to assist with managing accounts and enhancing our investment process and technology platform to support this important growth opportunity. Senior Portfolio Managers are subject matter experts that leverage his/her knowledge of markets and indices to drive investment performance while managing risks. They are capable of communicating investment insights to senior leadership, committees, the Board, and clients as needed. They are leaders that utilize a strong network to understand broader company initiatives, live the company values and take a personal stake in creating our company culture.
Key Responsibilities:
- Day-to day responsibility for managing a large number of portfolios in a highly automated, fast-paced environment.
- Work with Lead portfolio manager to design scalable investment processes to deliver customized direct index solutions to Schwab clients.
- Provide analytical and qualitative support to management and client-facing business partners.
- Work with Product, Research, Technology, Operations, and key stakeholders to enhance the investment process and deliver customized direct index solutions to Schwab clients.
- Clear understanding of investment and operational risks and proposes/implements solutions to enhance our procedures to mitigate these risks.
- Investment Acumen: Expert knowledge of direct indexing investment processes and strategies. Outstanding analytical skills, particularly with tax lot optimization techniques, coupled with reasoned judgment and qualitative insights.
- Collaboration Skills: Experienced member of a team of investment professionals with strong performance. Able to collaborate with technology, operations, trading and custodial teams to further the success of the business. Thrives within a rigorous analytical environment.
- Effective Communications Skills: Excellent communication skills (written and verbal). A clear and credible presentation style. Able to concisely communicate business needs and research findings to management. A great ambassador for the firm. Capable of representing team/SAM at committee meetings, client meetings, external events.
- Mentor junior staff on how to be effective portfolio managers.
- Help build CSIM’s brand by contributing as a subject matter expert to collateral pieces for the product
- Regularly follow the markets, have a good understanding of key investment and market trends and how they may impact portfolio decisions
- Take personal ownership of and actively engage in fostering a positive and collegial work environment
SAM is a matrixed organization, thus, the successful candidate displays outstanding collaboration skills and has experience building partnerships across an organization.
What you have
Requirements:
- 10+ years in a portfolio management or research position with emphasis on equities
- Experience with managing tax optimized SMAs and/or with indexing strategies
- CFA designation and/or post-graduate degree with a quantitative discipline
- Programming knowledge (Python, R) desirable
