The Senior Manager, Travel and Expense is responsible for end‑to‑end governance, administration, and continuous improvement of the company’s corporate card and expense reimbursement programs. This individual contributor role provides functional leadership over a high‑volume, high‑visibility program, ensuring strong controls, policy compliance, and operational excellence, while delivering a seamless employee experience.

Key responsibilities of this role include:

  • Execute functional management of the corporate credit card program, supporting 15,000+ card accounts, including issuance, maintenance, monitoring, and off‑boarding.
  • Oversee the design, implementation, and ongoing evolution of T&E and card program policies, standards, and procedures, ensuring alignment with business needs, regulatory requirements, and internal control expectations.
  • Exercise functional oversight of the Outsourced Program Administrator supporting T&E operations, ensuring alignment to policies, service standards, and control expectations.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for the expense reporting platform (SAP Concur), providing direction and input into system configuration, enhancements, integrations, and roadmap planning, including evaluating opportunities to responsibility leverage Artificial Intelligence (AI) capabilities where appropriate.
  • Analyze expense audit results and trends, identify root causes, and lead corrective actions such as targeted training, communications, and process improvements.
  • Partner closely with Accounts Payable to support reconciliations and payment processing, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and control effectiveness.
  • Work in close partnership with the Senior Travel Manager to ensure a cohesive booking‑to‑expense experience, aligning travel and expense policies, workflows, and systems.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to leaders and peers across the organization on T&E‑related topics, providing guidance grounded in deep functional expertise.
  • Develop and deliver regular and ad hoc reporting for leadership on program metrics across all Amex corporate products, spend trends, policy adherence, audit findings, and key performance indicators.
  • Collaborate with the Manager, Business Partner Support, who oversees the T&E Helpdesk and Purchasing Card program, to align communications, escalation processes, and service delivery, ensuring a consistent and effective employee support experience.
  • Monitor industry trends, regulatory changes, and leading practices related to corporate card programs; proactively recommend updates to keep policies and processes current and effective.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives that balance control, efficiency, scalability, and employee experience.
  • Create and maintain user guides, reference materials, and training content to support consistent understanding and application of T&E policies and processes.
  • Support additional strategic initiatives and special projects, including global programs and payment product expansion, as needed

What you have


The qualified candidate should possess the following skills:

  • Deep expertise in corporate Travel & Expense and card program management, including policy governance, audit controls, and high‑volume operations
  • Strong functional knowledge of enterprise expense platforms, particularly SAP Concur, including configuration, integrations, and enhancement lifecycle support
  • Demonstrated ability to provide functional oversight of outsourced vendors, ensuring alignment with service standards, controls, and program objectives
  • Advanced understanding of expense audit processes, risk identification, root‑cause analysis, and corrective action implementation
  • Ability to navigate sensitive employee situations and escalations with empathy and professionalism, exercising judgment to balance policy compliance and individual circumstances.
  • Proven capability to analyze and interpret large, complex data sets to identify trends, risks, and opportunities, and to translate insights into actionable recommendations
  • Ability to lead through influence rather than authority, serving as a trusted advisor and subject‑matter expert to leaders and peers
  • Strong program governance and control mindset, with the ability to judiciously balance compliance, efficiency, scalability, and employee experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to develop clear policies, user guides, training materials, and executive‑level reporting
  • High degree of independence, judgment, and accountability in managing multiple priorities and driving continuous improvement initiatives
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
