The Strategy and Innovation enterprise supports the CEO and Executive Council with setting Schwab’s strategic direction and ensuring that Schwab is best positioned to help our clients achieve the strongest possible financial outcomes. We help prioritize short- and long-term efforts across enterprises, establish strategic plans, and facilitate execution through mergers & acquisitions, strategic investments, vendor partnerships, program management, and more. The Strategy and Innovation enterprise consists of the following functions: Corporate Strategy, Strategic Program Management, Corporate Development and Corporate Vendor Management.

The Senior Manager of Strategy and Innovation Business Unit Risk Management will report to the Senior Team Manager of Strategy and Innovation BU Risk Management within Supplier Management and supports the broader Strategy and Innovation organization. The Senior Manager will be a part of the team that leads the ongoing development of and enhancements to required risk management and control functions across the enterprise playing a key role in helping the business meet critical regulatory, risk and control obligations which includes areas of focus such as business specific risk analysis, risk identification, and risk and control rating assessment.

Key responsibilities of this role include:

  • Support the Strategy and Innovation enterprise in driving improved risk and governance processes, facilitating issue resolution, partnering with first, second and third line of defense partners, and supporting testing and audit activities.

  • Work with business unit leaders to mature and ensure adherence with various policies, standards, and framework expectations.

  • Help to create and deliver standard business unit risk and control reporting.

  • Share knowledge and best practices across the organization to create consistent/efficient processes that support Enterprise in driving improved risk, control, and governance processes.

  • Work with business unit leaders to coordinate and manage all Firm and Enterprise risk initiatives and exercises, including building and maintaining Risk and Control Self Assessments (RCSA) and related processes and ensuring consistency of risk mitigation and control activities within Enterprise.

  • Participate in special projects and perform other duties as assigned.

What you have


The qualified candidate should possess the following skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.

  • Passion for serving clients and knowledge of the operational and regulatory risks applicable to the Strategy & Innovation organization.

  • 5+ years’ work experience in risk, control, and oversight experience.

  • Ability to influence others through the development of strong working relationships across the organization. 

  • Ability to independently manage competing priorities, work on multiple assignments and complete them within established deadlines.

  • Proven Business Unit risk management skills with a working knowledge of corporate standards and policies.

  • Excellent verbal/written communication, presentation, organizational and time management skills.

  • Ability to work independently, with minimum guidance, including making decisions if required.

  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to identify root cause of gaps and weaknesses.

  • Strong analytical skills with ability to assess and communicate risk.

  • Comfort in a dynamic and fast-moving work environment.

We believe in the importance of in-office collaboration and fully intend for the selected candidate for this role to work on site four days per week in the specified locations.
