Schwab Advisor Services’ Business Consulting and Education team helps independent financial advisors establish, scale, and operate successful businesses. By translating complex business decisions into actionable plans, the team supports advisors through prospect conversion, firm launch, and long-term growth.

As a Director, Business Transition Consulting, you will serve as both a hands-on transition leader and a coach to a team of Business Transition Consultants. You will lead complex advisor transition engagements while helping the team strengthen its approach to discovery, planning, risk identification, and execution. Working closely with business development and consulting leaders, you will create customized transition plans, coordinate partners across technology, operations, products, sales, service, and marketing, and help advisors navigate operational onboarding and client asset movement with clarity and confidence.

You will also help shape the broader transition experience by identifying opportunities to simplify processes, reduce cycle times, improve consistency, and develop scalable consulting practices. Through thoughtful coaching, clear communication, and sound judgment, you will elevate team performance while delivering a differentiated onboarding experience for advisors. Your leadership will directly contribute to successful transitions, stronger prospect conversion, and the continued growth of independent advisory firms.

What you have


Required qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in transition consulting, project management, or a related financial services role
  • Prior Advisor Servicestransition consulting experience
  • 2+ years of people leadership or team coaching experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of registered investment advisor business models and advisor transition processes, including operational onboarding, asset movement, and client experience considerations
  • Experience leading complex, multi-threaded client engagements and translating business requirements into clear, structured project plans
  • Ability to lead, coach, and develop professionals in a consultative or project-based environment
  • Ability to influence without direct authority and build alignment across distributed, cross-functional teams
  • Experience partnering with sales or business development teams to support deal strategy, prospect presentations, and conversion efforts
  • Ability to travel up to 30%, as needed

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience serving as a primary client contact during complex advisor transitions or financial services onboarding engagements
  • Ability to identify risks, navigate ambiguity, and establish a clear path forward while managing competing priorities
  • Strong relationship management skills with the ability to build trust with advisors, business partners, and senior leaders
  • Demonstrated ability to provide timely coaching, constructive feedback, and practical guidance that improves individual and team execution
  • Ability to communicate complex or sensitive information clearly, directly, and thoughtfully
  • Experience developing consulting playbooks, operating practices, or scalable delivery models
  • Strong organizational and project leadership skills, with the ability to manage multiple concurrent engagements in an evolving environment
  • A collaborative, client-focused approach to problem solving, continuous improvement, and delivering measurable results
