At Schwab, you’re empowered to make an impact on your career. Here, innovative thought meets creative problem solving, helping us “challenge the status quo” and transform the finance industry together.

The Director, Technology Risk Management Principal is an individual contributor who works cross-functionally across TRACC to support team strategy development, rationalize processes, and identify opportunities for automation and streamlining. The role delivers outcomes through collaboration and influence, with no direct people-management responsibilities.
Partnering with TRACC leaders and functional process owners, the Director assesses current-state practices, identifies duplication and gaps, and develops recommendations and prioritized improvement plans. The role translates team priorities into actionable roadmaps, coordinating dependencies and tracking progress while functional owners retain accountability for their processes and execution.
The Director also performs governance activities across departmental functions to ensure key processes are documented, aligned with applicable requirements, and periodically evaluated for updates. The role coordinates documentation reviews, tracks gaps and required changes, and provides leadership with visibility into process governance and improvement priorities.
The Director will perform the following duties as an individual contributor in partnership with TRACC leaders and functional process owners:
- Support cross-functional TRACC strategy development by synthesizing team priorities, facilitating planning discussions, and developing recommendations, roadmaps, and measures of success.
- Assess and map processes across TRACC functions to identify duplication, unnecessary complexity, gaps, and dependencies; recommend rationalization, standardization, and streamlined handoffs.
- Identify and evaluate automation opportunities, including workflow, analytics, and AI-enabled use cases; partner with process and technology owners to define requirements, expected benefits, feasibility, dependencies, and prioritized implementation plans.
- Coordinate approved improvement initiatives across functional teams, track milestones and outcomes, and escalate dependencies or barriers; ensure automation proposals address applicable BLD, AI governance, and model risk standards.
- Maintain an inventory of key departmental processes, documentation, accountable owners, applicable requirements, and review dates; identify missing or outdated documentation and coordinate resolution with functional owners.
- Establish and coordinate periodic and change-triggered documentation reviews to confirm key processes remain aligned with requirements; track owner approvals, version updates, review evidence, and outstanding actions.
- Build partnerships across TRACC, STS Management, Technology Risk Management, Business Management, Internal Audit, Sarbanes-Oxley Compliance, and Enterprise Operational Risk Management to align requirements and coordinate cross-functional improvements.
- Provide concise leadership reporting on strategy execution, process improvements, automation opportunities, and documentation governance, highlighting benefits, gaps, overdue reviews, and decisions needed.
Other duties include:
- Build strong relationships and partner closely with business and technology partners across Charles Schwab Corporation and its affiliates.
- May travel minimally as part of training and ongoing program developments and improvements
