Charles Schwab’s Retail Strategy, Finance Integration, and Planning group acts as the internal management consulting arm for the Retail business—the firm’s primary division, with 13,000 employees worldwide. The Retail Strategy, Planning, and Operations team serves as a trusted adviser to the head of Retail and its Leadership Team, collaborating on strategic and operational priorities at the highest level. With approximately 15 professionals, the team is recognized as a premier talent pipeline, with many alumni advancing to senior roles across the organization. The group fulfills two main functions: assisting the Retail Leadership Team with strategic decision-making and supporting their operational and business planning requirements.
The Director role focuses on Schwab’s Retail Strategy function. This leader will help shape new initiatives and manage high-priority strategy projects. Typical assignments include growth strategy, market assessment and entry evaluation, M&A and divestiture planning, and organizational design.
Key Responsibilities
- Influence pivotal strategic decisions impacting the company's direction
- Develop impactful business strategies for Schwab’s Retail division
- Plan and oversee execution of complex project work streams; own smaller projects end-to-end
- Mentor and coach junior team members; manage project teams when needed
- Collaborate with motivated colleagues from top consulting firms and leading academic programs
- Build relationships with diverse business partners and gain deep expertise in the Retail business
- Regularly present strategic insights and recommendations to senior leadership

What you have
- Minimum 7 years of full-time professional experience, with at least 5 years in strategy (4 years with an MBA), ideally at a top-tier consulting firm or large organization’s strategy group
- Proficient in managing projects with varying team compositions, similar to a consulting firm environment
- Experience mentoring and coaching team members
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; adept at tailoring messages for specific audiences
- Proven ability to develop and communicate business strategies through compelling stories and materials
- Experienced in presenting to executive audiences
- Skilled in analyzing industry trends, competitor actions, and external developments to inform strategy
- Outstanding problem-solving abilities, leveraging both quantitative and qualitative analysis
- Advanced financial modeling skills and understanding of financial/valuation concepts
- Exceptional interpersonal and influencing skills, especially within cross-functional teams
- High attention to detail, strong sense of urgency, and proactive approach
- Comfortable with ambiguity in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
- Expert user of PowerPoint and Excel
- Alignment with Schwab’s vision and values, and a strong interest in financial services
