Charles Schwab’s Corporate Vendor Management group oversees Schwab’s relationships with third-party service providers
across the full supplier lifecycle, including sourcing, risk assessment, contracting, onboarding, monitoring, and off boarding, as
well as procurement. The team strives to act as trusted, strategic advisors to business leaders across Schwab, by helping them
work with third parties in a way that successfully balances their needs, risk and cost. As the firm’s outsourcing needs have
increased in volume and complexity, this team’s responsibilities have also grown over time.
Reporting to the Managing Director of Supplier Management in Corporate Vendor Management, the Director, Contracts,
Procurement & Purchasing is accountable for defining and executing the strategy for procurement operations and supplier
onboarding and maintenance. This role drives operational excellence, scalability, and risk mitigation while enhancing both
internal client and supplier experience.


The Director leads a multi-functional organization in a highly collaborative team setting, establishing relationships with a wide
range of partners including Finance, Risk, Technology and Business Units at all levels of the organization, and may interface with
outside regulators.

This position requires working with and leveraging partners and tools from across the firm to support execution of the program
and processes, including across Corporate Vendor Management, Third Party Risk Management, Third Party Risk Review Teams,
Contract Owners, Vendors, Finance leadership, and others. This is a people leader role. This role is required to work onsite
within Schwab's facility, with flexibility in work arrangements in alignment with the company-wide Workplace Flexibility
Program.


What you’re good at
• Detailed understanding of Schwab’s third-party supplier management lifecycle processes in alignment with company-
wide policies, standards, and procedures.
• Leading complex, cross-functional operations with a focus on scalability, efficiency, and business impact.
• Understanding linkages among third-party dependencies and Finance or other departmental objectives.
• Collaborating with business partners to provide information and support related to Supplier Management lifecycle
management, reporting and analytics, processes, and systems with emphasis on Supplier Onboarding and
Procurement functions.
• Enhancing internal customer or supplier experience through streamlined, intuitive procurement and supplier
onboarding workflows.
• Driving measurable improvement in cycle times, spend accuracy and risk exposure through process optimization and
technology enablement.
• Serving as a key leader in vendor governance, ensuring alignment to regulatory expectations, internal policies and
audit standards, while proactively identifying and mitigating third-party risks.

• Ensuring Schwab Business Partner support activities are consistent with Schwab policies and guidelines.
• Developing a thorough understanding of operational processes to represent them fairly to others and formulate
defensible justification for program design.
• Advocating on behalf of the team to internal and external audiences, communicating the team’s position on issues in
a clear and convincing manner
• Developing reports and presentations detailing assessment outcomes clearly and concisely.
• Develop reporting as needed to measure functional statuses and service levels including graphs and analysis
• Partnering with technology and operations teams to drive system enhancements and automation across procurement
and supplier lifecycle platforms (e.g. Ariba, Zip, PeopleSoft), improving data integrity and workflow efficiency.
• Leading and developing a multi-functional team fostering a high-performance, data-driven culture.
• Influencing leadership decision-making through data-driven insights, executive-level reporting and strategic
recommendations.

What you have


To ensure that we have fulfilled our promise of "challenging the status quo," this role has specific qualifications that successful candidates should have.

Required Qualifications

• 12+ years of relevant vendor management experience, including 5+ years in buying and invoicing or related role with
proficiency in leading a geographically dispersed team, including experience and proven capability working in a
regulated financial services environment.
• 7+ years of successfully leading and developing high performing, geographically dispersed teams.
• Deep understanding of procurement and supplier onboarding processes, including alignment to contract terms and
financial controls.
• Proven experience driving cross-functional initiatives across procurement, third-party risk, contracts management,
and data quality.
• Desire and motivation to learn new skills and expand knowledge to improve job performance, team and functional
capabilities.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a demonstrated ability to track, measure, and improve outcomes.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to see downstream impacts.
• Flexible and adaptable in leading and implementing large-scale changes.
• Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal, with experience presenting to senior leaders and/or
regulatory stakeholders.
• Comfort dealing with ambiguity and ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment with minimal
direction.
• Exceptional ability to build mutually effective partnerships with internal and external business partners.
• Proficient with Ariba and PeopleSoft, a plus.
• Expert user of PowerPoint and Excel.
• Bachelor’s degree required; Advanced degree preferred.
