Schwab Asset Management (SAM), the asset management arm of Charles Schwab Corporation, has more than $1 Trillion in assets under management (AUM) and is one of the nation’s largest retail money managers. The ideal Associate Portfolio Manager candidate will have a passionate interest in the financial markets, particularly fixed income. The candidate will be intellectually curious, self-motivated, and detail-oriented. The candidate should be an enthusiastic self-starter with a great attitude and an ability to engage with our existing team and the broader organization.
The Associate Portfolio Manager will be join the tax exempt fixed income portfolio management team responsible for managing separate accounts. This individual will work closely with all teams within the fixed income department. Specific areas of focus include managing, order generation, analyzing and reporting across a wide range of our investment strategies.
What you’ll do:
- Contribute to all aspects of the tax exempt separately managed accounts (SMA) daily investment workstreams, generating orders, reviewing prospect portfolios, generating performance attribution and risk modeling outputs, and reporting relevant market events/conditions to colleagues with analysis.
- Work closely with various business counterparts including credit research, trading, trade operations
- Responsible for ongoing surveillance and analysis of trends within the market and portfolios, particularly relating to credit quality, yield curve and liquidity conditions within the municipal bond market.
- Actively participate to continuously enhance the SMA investment processes while maintaining management responsibilities for a large number of individual portfolios.
What you have
Required qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required. Degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Accounting or related field highly preferred. While not mandatory, preference will be given to individuals who hold or are actively pursuing a Charted Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.
- Minimum 2 of years in the asset management industry, with prior experience in fixed income portfolio management and tax exempt municipal bonds.
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills with the ability to perform complex data and portfolio analysis ad hoc.
- Advanced knowledge of Bloomberg is required.
- Excellent verbal and communication skills with the ability to explain complex investment concepts to a diverse audience.
- Strong decision making skills, ability to think strategically and independently in a fast paced environment.
- Extensive experience with InvestorTools Perform, including hands on use of custom rules, workflow configuration, strategy scoring, amount tables and management styles. Ability to leverage Perform to support portfolio construction, compliance, and investment decision making is required.
