Your Opportunity

Schwab remains committed to providing increased visibility to career growth opportunities and job requirements. This posting announcement is part of increased transparency and while all qualified applicants will be reviewed and considered, this organization has a preferred candidate identified for this role.

At Schwab, you’re empowered to make an impact on your career. Here, innovative thought meets creative problem solving, helping us “challenge the status quo” and transform the finance industry together.

We believe in the importance of in-office collaboration and fully intend for the selected candidate for this role to work on site in the specified location.

Schwab Technology Services enables the future of how clients manage their money by providing innovative and reliable technology products and services as part of our ongoing commitment to democratize access to investing and financial planning.

Organization / Role Description

This senior individual contributor will design, build, automate, optimize, and support enterprise PCF and Red Hat OpenShift platforms running in Schwab's on-premises data centers. The role will help establish resilient, secure, and repeatable platform capabilities that enable application teams to deploy and operate containerized workloads at scale.

Key Responsibilities

This engineer will serve as a technical anchor for the team across platform build, lifecycle management, engineering standards, and Tier 3 production support. The role requires deep hands-on experience operating enterprise container platforms in on-premises environments, strong systems and software engineering judgment, and the ability to lead complex technical work through influence. Public cloud experience is valuable for future planning, but it does not replace significant experience building and managing on-premises platforms

What you have

To ensure that we have fulfilled our promise of "challenging the status quo," this role has specific qualifications that successful candidates should have.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in platform engineering, systems engineering, infrastructure engineering, software development, or infrastructure automation, including senior-level responsibility for production platforms.
  • Minimum of 4 years of hands-on experience building, administering, upgrading, and supporting enterprise PCF, Tanzu Platform for Cloud Foundry, Red Hat OpenShift, or comparable Kubernetes-based platforms in production.
  • Significant hands-on experience managing container platforms hosted in on-premises data centers. Candidates whose experience is limited to managed public cloud container services will not meet this requirement.
  • Demonstrated experience with production platform architecture and operations, including high availability, disaster recovery, backup and restore, capacity management, patching, upgrades, security remediation, and lifecycle planning.
  • Advanced knowledge of Kubernetes and container platform concepts, including cluster architecture, operators, scheduling, ingress, service discovery, persistent storage, registries, secrets, certificates, identity integration, and policy enforcement.
  • Strong Linux administration and troubleshooting skills, including the ability to diagnose complex issues across operating systems, containers, networks, storage, and distributed platform services.
  • Experience developing production-quality automation or software using Python, C#, Java, Go, or a comparable modern language, plus experience with APIs, scripting, automated testing, and source control.
  • Experience with Git-based delivery, CI/CD, GitOps, declarative configuration, and infrastructure or configuration-as-code practices.
  • Experience implementing observability using metrics, logging, tracing, monitoring, alerting, dashboards, and actionable service health indicators.
  • Demonstrated ability to make sound technical decisions in ambiguous situations, communicate tradeoffs, influence cross-functional partners, and lead complex work from design through stable production operation.
  • Ability and willingness to participate in an on-call production support rotation
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent practical work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Deep experience with both PCF or Tanzu Platform for Cloud Foundry and Red Hat OpenShift in large, regulated, on-premises environments.
  • Experience with OpenShift GitOps or Argo CD, Advanced Cluster Management, Advanced Cluster Security, OpenShift Pipelines, Quay, Concourse, or comparable platform management and delivery tooling.
  • Experience with Ansible Automation Platform and vendor-supported automation used for platform provisioning, configuration, upgrades, application onboarding, and remediation.
  • Experience integrating container platforms with VMware vSphere or other enterprise virtualization, software-defined networking, enterprise storage, load balancers, DNS, PKI, identity providers, secrets management, and security tooling.
  • Experience with Splunk, Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry-compatible tooling, or similar enterprise observability platforms.
  • Public cloud experience with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud that supports hybrid-cloud evaluation and future platform planning. Public cloud experience is preferred, not required.
  • Relevant certifications such as Red Hat Certified OpenShift Administrator, Red Hat Certified Specialist in OpenShift, Kubernetes CKA or CKS, or Tanzu and Cloud Foundry certifications.
  • Experience in financial services or another highly regulated industry.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and creating durable runbooks, reference architectures, engineering standards, support procedures, and reusable platform patterns

In addition to the salary range, this role is also eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities
