In Compliance, we help our business partners achieve their strategic priorities by promoting principles and practices that build client trust and safeguard the integrity of the firm. Compliance Risk Assessments helps Compliance to prioritize and focus Compliance resources towards remediation of identified weaknesses, conducts testing and monitoring, and provides regulatory training. The broader Compliance organization will rely on the Compliance Risk Assessment Director to lead and manage the Compliance Risk Assessment process to determine areas that present the most significant compliance risk to Schwab and/or Schwab’s affiliates/subsidiaries.
The Compliance Risk Assessment Director is responsible for leading a team covering Schwab’s businesses, providing strategic direction and leadership as the program continues to evolve and expand. The Director’s team will monitor, assess, and report on changes regarding the levels of compliance risk as emphasized by regulators including, but not limited to: the Federal Reserve Bank (FRB), Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), Texas Department of Savings and Mortgage Lending (TDSML), Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), National Futures Association (NFA), Securities and Futures Commission (Hong Kong), Financial Conduct Authority (United Kingdom), and Monetary Authority of Singapore. The Director will be a member of the Compliance Risk Assessment leadership team, assisting with the development of the strategic vision as well as provide support for team engagement.
- Leading a team of risk assessors to ensure Compliance Risk Assessments are completed accurately, completely, and in a timely manner and in accordance with department standards, procedures, and methodology.
- Cultivating relationships with Compliance Leadership, key stakeholders across Corporate Risk Management and the Business to partner, collaborate, and report compliance risk assessment strategy and results.
- Present compliance risk assessment strategy, results and recommendations to various Company risk governance committees.
- Maintaining a strong working knowledge of federal and state laws, regulations, and guidance (including developments and emerging risks) applicable to the firm’s areas of business. Identifying trends in risk assessments, including methodology and practices, to identify and communicate areas for continuous improvement and evolution.
- Creating and communicating team priorities and objectives, guiding team in execution of risk assessments, and advancing items to the Head of Compliance Risk Assessment and leadership team, where appropriate.
- Leading various compliance related projects as needed.
What you have
Required:
- BS/BA degree and/or equivalent experience
- 10 or more years of experience in the financial services industry, in compliance risk assessment
- Strong knowledge and understanding of regulatory expectations, interpreting regulatory guidance, and assessing risk.
Preferred:
- Ability to think critically about compliance risk including various factors or inputs as well as the results.
- Ability to exhibit executive presence and leadership for the Compliance Risk Assessment team
- Ability to lead and work on multiple projects, prioritize activities, and meet deadlines.
- Strong ability to effectively communicate/clearly articulate risks and methodology, including changes, to leadership and key stakeholders.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Programs (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel) and SharePoint as well as MyGRC.
- Ability to effectively challenge SMEs, teammates, and senior leadership to help improve the Compliance Risk Assessment data and process.
- Comprehensive knowledge of business risk and control self-assessments (RCSAs)
- Ability to analyze, and interpret large quantities of reports/data and summarize meaningful trends and components in a concise manner.
- Strong attention to detail, i.e. complex excel spreadsheets with multiple worksheets and formulas.
