Functions Compliance is seeking a Director to provide advice and guidance support to Schwab’s Middle Office Services (“MOS”) business unit. MOS manages the end‑to‑end processing and control of client account lifecycle and servicing functions—including asset transfers, account onboarding and verification, document management, estate processing, and managed account operations—ensuring transactions are executed accurately, timely, and in compliance with firm and regulatory requirements. This role will be an individual contributor and sits in the Compliance Department in the Second Line of Defense (2LOD) for a team that provides regulatory guidance to business partners on items such as changes to regulatory developments, guidance on the launches of new products and platforms, and analysis of existing policies.

What you’re good at

The successful candidate will report to the Managing Director of Functions Compliance and will provide regulatory guidance to business partners and other colleagues in the second line of defense.

Day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Actively participate in various projects and initiatives and effectively challenge business partners when appropriate. 
  • Work closely with the MOS leadership and Operations Control to challenge solutions to customized problems that also satisfy regulations.
  • Work closely with MOS leadership and Operational Services’ Business Unit Risk on RCSA items, Conflicts of Interest, Business Self-Identified items, and ongoing remediation efforts.
  • Coordinate with Operations Control on results of Global Compliance Testing Program.  Work with Global Compliance Testing and Internal Audit (Third Line of Defense) on test plans. 
  • Provide subject matter expertise on proposed rules and regulations and their potential impact on the business.
  • Assist in creating and maintaining Compliance policies and procedures.

What you have


To ensure that we have fulfilled our promise of "challenging the status quo," this role has specific qualifications that successful candidates should have.

Required Qualifications

  • At least 10+ years either in a Compliance or Risk Management role, preferably at a broker-dealer or investment adviser.
  • Excellent knowledge of and practical experience with SEC and FINRA Rules.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to influence, partner and collaborate with various groups, including senior business management.
  • Proven experience working independently and prioritizing multiple projects based on regulatory risk and business needs.
  • FINRA Series 7, 63, and 24 licenses preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree and MBA/JD preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Programs (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel) required.
  • Proficiency in SharePoint preferred.

In addition to the salary range, this role is also eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities
