Your Opportunity

At Schwab, you’re empowered to make an impact on your career. Here, innovative thought meets creative problem solving, helping us “challenge the status quo” and transform the finance industry together.

We believe in the importance of in-office collaboration and fully intend for the selected candidate for this role to work on site in the specified location.

The Senior Engineering Tech Lead for the Financial Planning (FP) team provides deep technical leadership across multiple Scrum teams delivering advanced Financial Planning experiences and capabilities. This role blends architectural ownership, handson technical expertise, and crossteam coordination—without direct peoplemanagement responsibilities.

You will guide engineering teams in designing and delivering complex FP features such as budgeting, forecasting, scenario modeling, analytics, and financial data workflows. You will also play a key role in shaping how Generative AI (GenAI) enhances FP experiences, from intelligent insights to automated planning workflows.

Technical Leadership & Architecture

  • Define and drive the technical vision, architecture, and engineering standards for Financial Planning systems.
  • Lead solution design for complex FP capabilities, ensuring scalability, performance, and maintainability.
  • Partner with architects and senior engineers to evolve the FP platform toward modern, cloudnative, and datadriven patterns.
  • Provide handson technical guidance, code reviews, and architectural mentorship across multiple Scrum teams.

GenAI Strategy & Integration

  • Identify opportunities to apply Generative AI to enhance Financial Planning workflows, insights, and user experiences.
  • Collaborate with AI/ML teams to design and integrate GenAIpowered features such as intelligent forecasting, narrative explanations, anomaly detection, and scenario generation.
  • Ensure GenAI solutions meet standards for security, privacy, model governance, and responsible AI.
  • Guide teams in leveraging LLMs, vector search, prompt engineering, and AIassisted development tools where appropriate.
  • Advocate for scalable architectures that support AIdriven capabilities, including data pipelines, model hosting, and inference patterns.

CrossTeam Delivery Leadership

  • Coordinate technical execution across several engineering teams to ensure cohesive, endtoend delivery of FP features.
  • Identify and manage technical dependencies, risks, and integration points across services and components.
  • Collaborate with Product Management to translate FP requirements into actionable technical plans and engineering backlogs.

Ensure teams follow best practices in CI/CD, automated testing, observability, and secure development.

Domain Expertise & Product Partnership

  • Develop a deep understanding of Financial Planning processes—budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, scenario planning, and financial modeling.
  • Work closely with Product, Design, and Finance SMEs to shape technical solutions that meet customer and business needs.
  • Advocate for technical feasibility, longterm sustainability, and architectural integrity in product discussions.
  • Champion reliability, performance, and operational health across FP services.
  • Lead technical incident investigations, rootcause analysis, and longterm remediation strategies.
  • Establish and track engineering metrics that reflect quality, velocity, and system stability.
  • Mentor engineers across teams, helping them grow in system design, coding practices, and technical problemsolving.
  • Promote a culture of engineering excellence, continuous learning, and innovation.
