Your Opportunity

At Schwab, you’re empowered to make an impact on your career. Here, innovative thought meets creative problem solving, helping us “challenge the status quo” and transform the finance industry together.

We believe in the importance of in-office collaboration and fully intend for the selected candidate for this role to work on site in the specified location.

The ideal candidate is a curious coach and team player who has mastered the art of balance—developing talent while managing capacity, building relationships while driving innovation, and applying left brain discipline while nurturing right brain creativity. Nothing rattles this calm, focused leader who can go deep into the details to help solve a complex challenge, then elevate quickly to link individual projects to broader business strategies. On top of that, this person will be a remarkable collaborator and communicator, able to connect with team members, colleagues and business partners.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Lead collaboration and relationship-sustaining efforts across departments (Workplace Financial Services, including Communication Consulting, Relationship Management and Compliance; Marketing and Retail Participant Experience) to cultivate an environment of partnership and teamwork with the Workplace Participant Marketing Team.

  • Prioritize and assign work to the proper team member in collaboration with other department leaders.

  • Champion clear, effective communications, coaching the team to convey complex and technical topics in conversational, relatable language that encourages participants to take action.

  • Partner with Director and other leaders to develop and maintain a culture of innovation, engagement, and fun.

  • Create and maintain conscious awareness of programmatic communications so team members can provide thoughtful consultation to the best available client solution.

  • Support creation of plan-specific participant communications where appropriate and where there is a value-add to the client relationship.

  • Help guide end-to-end project management and successful delivery of communications across multiple delivery channels including print, email and web.

  • Fill in gaps on subject matter expertise through experience or research, specifically with retirement plan features and client relationship nuances as needed, using strong judgment skills to ensure the appropriate approach to meet the client’s needs.

  • Foster an environment that supports change management and ongoing evolution at the team and individual level.

  • Drive continuous progress and innovation, supporting a team culture that strives to improve efficiency and scale while maintaining a best-in-class participant experience.

  • Explore and leverage technology including Workfront, Salesforce Marketing Cloud, and propriety Schwab systems to drive personalization at scale.

  • Manage strategic projects and/or provide leadership guidance to support projects as needed.

What you have

To ensure that we have fulfilled our promise of "challenging the status quo," this role has specific qualifications that successful candidates should have.

Required Qualifications

Qualified candidates have a minimum 8-10 years of communications management, with 3-5 years team management experience, working directly with client-facing teams, creative teams, and legal/compliance. Workplace Services experience preferred.

  • A strong solution focused approach, understanding of agency processes and overall strategic “big picture” acumen

  • Experience leading teams and a passion for developing people

  • The ability to collaborate across teams and partner with leadership to present work effectively to clients

  • A positive demeanor, sense of humor, and the flexibility to operate in an environment with deadlines and changing demands

  • Attention to detail, and strong organizational and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to take charge of a group when it is necessary to facilitate change, overcome an impasse, face issues, or ensure that decisions are made

  • Exceptional relationship-building skills and ability to influence and motivate people at all levels across a broad variety of job functions

  • Familiarity with enterprise level project management tools such as Workfront, Jira and Salesforce Marketing Cloud

  • A proven track record of success delivering a wide range of medium and large-scale projects

  • Experience in financial services or other highly regulated industry, specifically in retirement plan services and/or workplace benefits, strongly preferred

  • Experience supporting change management and a willingness to lean into innovation and progress
