Our Opportunity:

We are looking to hire a Sr. Manager Software Development & Engineering Lead who is responsible to lead the design and implementation of Schwab systems and infrastructure for Cross Enterprise Services Site Reliability Engineering department to ensure resiliency, scalability, availability, and adhere to all Schwab security standards and guidelines. In addition to this, the lead will be responsible for setting up Operational best practices, processes and tools to ensure high priority risk detection initiatives are completed with a sense of urgency. Our ideal candidate is confident self-starter, loves identifying and solving problems, communicates well, and is passionate about cloud services, Web services, and remote administration, who can also lead multiple parallel initiatives – big and small - with attention to detail, manage business and management expectation and is passionate about microservices & service integration technologies. Other responsibilities include design and oversight of automated solutions to address common challenges and reduce manual churn, supporting infrastructure, technology and business partners’ needs.  

We are improving availability and performance of our client’s experience with a variety of solutions using.NET (Core, C#, PowerShell), Splunk, Microservice Architecture, Cloud Foundry, Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Aerospike – it is an exciting time to join our team and be part of this new system development opportunity.

What you’ll do:

  • Lead technical teams in delivering highly scalable and reliable applications that meet business budgets/timelines while ensuring alignment to strategic technology vision.
  • Manage day-to-day activities and influence team members to leverage follow and support agile software development practices
  • Support production environment and keep our shared environments available for customers.
  • Triage alerts & diagnosing/resolving critical issues, handling implementation of changes
  • Real-Time troubleshooting of critical application workflows and incorporating feedback to product development
  • Hands-on enterprise systems administration, monitoring, and deployment activities
  • Finding opportunities to build innovative tools and solving operations problems by building automation on a large enterprise and critical applications
  • Building scripts to automate operational tasks & incorporating the solutions into infrastructure
  • Coordinate and collaborate with release management relating to infrastructure other critical changes.
  • Develop and support automation and processes to enable teams to deploy, manage, configure, test, and monitor their applications
  • Create and review documentation and process regarding recurring issues, new standard operating procedures, knowledge transfer material, etc.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Scrum and Ops resources to provide technical expertise and support on key initiatives for system availability and reliability.
  • Bring a passion to stay on top of tech trends, experiment with and learn new technologies, participate in internal technology communities, and mentor other members of the team
  • Review programming and environment changes and raise awareness for potential impacts Skills
  • Coordinate capacity planning
  • Identify gaps/risks early and establish mitigation plans
  • Continually strive for improvements in process and design of systems and infrastructure
  • Participate in on-call and after hours support as needed.

What you have

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or related fields is required.
  • 8 - 10 years of experience with enterprise level administration and support
  • 8 - 10 years of experience in troubleshooting and providing support to .NET/.NET Core Production applications
  • Proficiency in managing multiple priorities in a dynamic, geographically dispersed environment
  • Strong expertise with 4+ years of experience in message-based integration and event-driven architecture
  • Deep understanding of SDLC, Agile software development methodologies, values, and procedures.
  • Ability to analyze, propose and implement timely, cost effective, quality solutions for all issues or problems within area of responsibility.
  • Strong influencing, negotiation, and problem-solving skills with an ability to identify stakeholders, assess their needs and manage their expectations through effective communication.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required for composing and delivering technical presentations or other forms of documentation to various level of technical and non-technical management.
  • Strong coaching and mentoring experience to build and sustain high performing team
  • Solid Experience in PowerShell scripting language and Windows administration
  • Experience with Windows Server and IIS webserver administration
  • Experience and knowledge of NoSQL database systems – MongoDB/Aerospike is a plus
  • 5 to 8 years of experience in Cloud application configuration, deployment, support and migration – GCP/PCF is a plus
  • Familiarity with logging/application monitoring tools (Grafana, AppDynamics, Splunk, Zabbix, Nagios, etc.)
  • Familiarity with large scale distributed systems and high-availability architectures
  • Knowledge of one or more of Message Brokers such as Kafka, RabbitMQ
  • SaltStack experience or similar experience (Ansible for example) a plus
  • Flexibility to operate in an environment with changing demands and priorities
  • Ability to effectively engage subject matter experts and understand technical topics

  • Versatile and Deep knowledge of Platform as a Service (PaaS)
  • Versatile and Deep knowledge of Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS)

  • Gritty resolve to dig deeper into technical issues in a complex login eco-system

  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
