Sr Manager, Software Development & Engineering Lead
Your Opportunity

This posting announcement is part of increased transparency and while all qualified applicants will be reviewed and considered, this organization has a preferred candidate identified for this role.
At Schwab, you’re empowered to make an impact on your career. Here, innovative thought meets creative problem solving, helping us “challenge the status quo” and transform the finance industry together.
We believe in the importance of in-office collaboration and fully intend for the selected candidate for this role to work on site in the specified location.
As a member of the Advisor Services Technology team, you will be part of a highly collaborative, fast‑paced, and intellectually stimulating environment where innovation and impact go hand in hand. We are seeking a Senior Engineering who is passionate about leveraging deep expertise in software development, software testing, and modern technology to support and evolve the Advisor Services Wealth Management platform.
This role calls for a strong work ethic, exceptional problem‑solving abilities, and keen attention to detail, along with the confidence to navigate ambiguity and complexity. The ideal candidate will be willing to be hands‑on, actively contribute to design and development, participate in code reviews, and support the continuous growth of the team by mentoring and helping develop technical skillsets. You will lead (at times) and contribute to sophisticated batch and full‑stack application development, balance multiple priorities, and partner closely with business stakeholders, business analysts, and technologists across the organization to deliver high‑quality, meaningful outcomes.
Responsibilities:
- End-to-end technical design and solution delivery for complex initiatives supporting the Advisor Services Wealth Management Platform and Portfolio Management.
- Provide thought leadership as you contribute to architectural alignment and design consensus through independent research, analysis, and cross-functional coordination with business and technology partners & architects.
- Own and deliver team-level roadmap commitments, ensuring delivery quality, risk management, and release readiness across assigned initiatives.
- Produce and maintain system design specifications and supporting artifacts (e.g., logic flows, data flows/files, deployment diagrams, and release strategy) to enable scalable delivery and operational support.
- Design and implement scalable, high-performance solutions for data file generation, ETL/validation workflows, and secure transmissions across systems and teams.
- Provide technical leadership across the SDLC, including hands-on contribution when needed, code and design reviews, testing strategy, debugging, documentation, and production support.
- Partner closely with SMEs, testers, business stakeholders, and product/application teams to translate complex business needs into robust technical solutions.
- Apply strong domain expertise in Advisor Services to guide solution design decisions and ensure outcomes align with platform and team objectives.
- Independently troubleshoot complex issues, perform root-cause analysis, recommend solutions, and drive implementation to reduce delivery and operational risk.
- Mentor engineers and elevate team capability by coaching on engineering best practices and supporting ongoing skill development.
What you have
To ensure that we have fulfilled our promise of "challenging the status quo," this role has specific qualifications that successful candidates should have.
Required:

- Hands-on experience designing and supporting multi‑tier, client/server and distributed application architectures.
- Highly organized, self‑motivated, and able to operate independently with minimal supervision.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey technical concepts to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
- Strong collaboration skills and a proven ability to work effectively within a team‑oriented environment.

- Strong proficiency with the Spring ecosystem (including Spring MVC) and familiarity with common Java runtime platforms and tooling.
- Demonstrated commitment to engineering quality, including disciplined code reviews and automated testing (unit testing and mocking frameworks such as JUnit).
- CI/CD-first engineering mindset, with experience building or modernizing automated build, test, and deployment pipelines using Git-based workflows.
- Experience with progressive delivery practices such as feature flags and blue/green deployments to improve release safety and agility.
