Become a member of the Business Operations & Enterprise Transformation’s Office of the CIO team in STS as a Senior Manager, Software Development & Engineering Lead responsible for leading a team of software development engineers and analytic developers whose core functions are to support technology costing models and reporting along with the reporting and management of STS resource capacity.  This team provides members with an unparalleled opportunity to define and work on major strategic initiatives while gaining visibility among the firm's senior leadership.  Our ideal candidate will have experience in technology total cost of ownership (TCO) and capacity planning for large-scale technology organizations. They will also possess a background in IT development, analysis and reporting as a leader of developers who deliver reporting solutions through multiple tool sets.

In this role, the candidate will be responsible for:

  • Assisting the Director with defining the vision and strategy for TCO and Capacity and Investment Management aligning to Schwab’s technology and business objectives
  • Lead and evolve an analytical development and engineering team delivering cost, capacity, and investment insights for a large-scale technology organization
  • Effectively managing the team’s multi-year roadmap and backlog for Apptio, analysis, and reporting development
  • Lead and develop an engineering and development team, including talent development, performance management, and succession planning.
  • Lead the team in designing and developing reporting solutions to meet stakeholder needs across business, technology, Corporate Strategy, and Finance
  • Lead the design and delivery of custom analytical solutions where standard tooling remains an opportunity.
  • Manage and deliver reporting solutions that drive the efficient management of technology cost and STS resource capacity across run (platform health and availability) and grow (growing the business) along with reporting that translates target investment levels to portfolio capacity
  • Lead the development of systems that clearly articulate portfolio spend (labor and non-labor) and resource capacity utilization.
  • Manage the team in developing reporting and insights into the ongoing evaluation and right-sizing resource capacity to achieve target investment levels

What you have


To ensure that we have fulfilled our promise of "challenging the status quo," this role has specific qualifications that successful candidates should have.

Required Qualifications

  • Previous experience with total cost of ownership, resource capacity management and optimization for a large, technology organization
  • Background spanning engineering, analytics, and strategic analysis (not purely financial or reporting)
  • Previous experience leading cross-enterprise technology programs
  • Previous experience on a chief of staff team supporting leaders in decision-making
  • 5+ years of experience working directly with CIO‑level organizations and senior leadership, with proven experience serving as a thought partner to executive leaders.
  • 5+ years of analysis experience developing complex models, leveraging various data sources to provide informed recommendations in line with strategic direction
  • 5+ years of program management and/or change management experience. Additional experience with consulting strategy or internal strategy a bonus.
  • Experience delivering executivelevel communication and influencing decisions at scale
  • Familiarity with various tools to support costing models, analysis, reporting solutions, and communications such as Excel, PowerPoint, Tableau, Alteryx, Clarity, PowerBI, Apptio
  • Experience designing custom analytical solutions alongside vendor tools
  • Familiarity with the software development life cycle (SDLC) and how to build/grow/develop a technology organization
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and establish trust with stakeholders
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Confidence dealing with ambiguity in a dynamic and fast-paced work environment
  • Experience working in the financial services industry
