Your Opportunity

Schwab remains committed to providing increased visibility to career growth opportunities and job requirements. This posting announcement is part of increased transparency and while all qualified applicants will be reviewed and considered, this organization has a preferred candidate identified for this role.

At Schwab, you’re empowered to make an impact on your career. Here, innovative thought meets creative problem solving, helping us “challenge the status quo” and transform the finance industry together.

We believe in the importance of in-office collaboration and fully intend for the selected candidate for this role to work on site in the specified location.

The role

Domain Architect for the Modules product — the reusable, self-service cloud infrastructure modules that Schwab application teams consume to run on GCP and AWS. This person owns two domains: the middleware domain — messaging, eventing, and integration, with supporting platform modules such as Pub/Sub, MQ, Kinesis, and Cloud Composer — and the database and storage domain — relational, NoSQL, and object storage, with modules such as Cloud SQL, Spanner, MongoDB Atlas, Bigtable, and Cloud Storage. The work is authored and governed as Terraform modules with a strong module-quality and review culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the middleware module domain across GCP and AWS — architecture, standards, and reference patterns for messaging, eventing, integration, and orchestration (Pub/Sub, MQ, Kinesis, Cloud Composer, and related platform modules), authored and governed as reusable Terraform modules.
  • Own the database and storage module domain across GCP and AWS — architecture, standards, and reference patterns for relational, NoSQL, and object storage (Cloud SQL, Spanner, MongoDB Atlas, Bigtable, Cloud Storage, and related platform modules), authored and governed as reusable Terraform modules, including the data-protection controls that ride with them such as CMEK encryption and object lifecycle and retention.
  • Hold the quality bar: lead design review and release sign-off for the domain, ensuring modules are secure-by-default, well-architected, and production-ready before application teams consume them.
  • Partner with the delivery leads and application teams to turn customer requirements into reusable, self-service modules, and shape the domain roadmap and reference patterns.
  • Advance the module-quality and IaC engineering culture — codify Terraform and module standards and the review bar, and mentor engineers to raise it.

What you have

To ensure that we have fulfilled our promise of "challenging the status quo," this role has specific qualifications that successful candidates should have.

Relevant and emphasized expertise

This role sits at the center of the platform's networking and security surface. We are looking for someone who can build advanced capability in both:

  • Networking across GCP and AWS: landing-zone and network foundation, VPC, subnet and CIDR planning, security groups and firewalls, private connectivity (interconnect / Direct Connect), and DNS.
  • Security: KMS and key management, IAM, certificate authority and PKI, secrets, guardrails and org policy, and secure-by-default module design.

What we look for

  • A senior cloud architect with deep, hands-on multi-cloud experience across GCP and AWS.
  • Strong Terraform and infrastructure-as-code module design, with a track record of module quality and review.
  • Middleware and integration architecture experience across messaging, eventing, and orchestration.
  • Database and storage architecture experience across relational, NoSQL, and object storage, including data protection, encryption, and lifecycle and retention.
  • The networking and security depth described above.

In addition to the salary range, this role is also eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities
