Schwab’s Wealth Advisory Services (WAS) enterprise delivers industry-leading wealth management experiences, through solutions like Schwab Wealth Advisory (SWA) and Schwab Advisor Network (SAN), along with a team of dedicated wealth services specialists. Within WAS, the Wealth Offer, Operations & Specialist organization is focused on strengthening Schwab’s full-service wealth management offers and delivering differentiated value across clients’ financial lives. The Strategic Wealth Partnerships team supports this ambition by identifying, evaluating, establishing, and managing external partnerships that expand the breadth and depth of capabilities available to Schwab clients.
The Director of Strategic Wealth Partnerships will lead the end-to-end development and management of high-impact strategic partnerships. This is a unique opportunity to shape an emerging strategic capability, build relationships with innovative external organizations, and collaborate across Schwab to strengthen the firm’s holistic wealth management proposition.
What You’ll Do
- Define Partnership Strategy and Priorities: Translate enterprise and wealth management priorities into a focused partnership roadmap, identifying target capabilities, partner criteria, sequencing, and success measures to address capability gaps and emerging client needs where partnerships can strengthen Schwab’s full-service, holistic wealth management offer
- Conduct Market Research & Partner Due Diligence: Informed by market trends, client needs, and competitive offerings, assess potential partners by evaluating strategic fit, capabilities, financial strength, operating model, scalability, reputation, risk, and long-term viability
- Lead Partner Evaluation and Selection: Develop structured evaluation frameworks, coordinate requests for information, and organize demonstrations or demo days to enable cross-functional assessment and informed partner selection
- Lead Contract Negotiation:Lead the contracting and negotiation process in coordination with Vendor Management and Legal, to secure favorable terms that protect Schwab and maximize partnership value
- Manage Strategic Partnership Lifecycle: Lead partnership development from initial engagement through execution and ongoing management, coordinating with cross-functional partners across Offer, Risk, Legal, Compliance, and other functions as needed
- Influence & Align Stakeholders: Build alignment across senior leaders, business units, and enterprise functions; navigate competing priorities and drive timely decisions in a complex, highly regulated environment
- Communicate with Clarity: Create compelling presentations that synthesize partnership opportunities and assessments into clear, concise narratives that articulate strategic rationale and recommendations
- Lead & Develop Talent: Guide team member(s) and foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, curiosity, and high performance
- Lean into Adaptability: Adapt to evolving priorities and drive progress in face of ambiguity, and complex, fast-paced environments
What you have
Required:
- Minimum 10+ years of total work experience, including significant experience in strategic partnerships, corporate development, transaction execution, or a related strategic leadership role
- Prior experience in wealth management / wealth advisory-based business
- Proven ability to execute strategic partnership or transactions throughout lifecycle: from opportunity identification and evaluation through negotiation, contracting, governance approval, implementation, and ongoing management
- Strong business judgment and the ability to balance strategic opportunity, client value, commercial considerations, operational feasibility, and enterprise risk
- Curiosity and a love of exploring market research, industry trends, competitive intelligence, coupled with experience across due diligence and strategic assessment; Ability to synthesize these into clear recommendations
- Experience partnering across product / offer management, technology, legal, risk, compliance, and other enterprise functions
- Exceptional executive communication skills, including the ability to craft compelling presentations and concise narratives for senior audiences
- Exceptional executive presence, emotional maturity, collaboration, negotiation, and influencing skills
- Highly resourceful, adaptable, and proactive, with the ability to provide structure, create momentum, and deliver results in an area with evolving priorities
Preferred:
- At least 2 years of people management experience preferred
