What You Will Do

  • Conduct operational risk reviews, assessments, and analyses across multiple business functions within CSTB.
  • Identify operational risks, process weaknesses, control concerns, and emerging trends through research, reporting, data analysis, and business engagement.
  • Analyze operational losses, incidents, complaints, audit observations, and other risk-related information to identify themes, trends, and potential risk exposures.
  • Develop risk-based recommendations that assist business partners in strengthening processes, improving controls, and reducing operational risk.
  • Partner with business stakeholders to evaluate processes and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, enhance controls, and mitigate risk.
  • Escalate identified risks and concerns to management while providing thoughtful analysis and recommendations.
  • Support the development and maintenance of operational risk reporting, dashboards, metrics, and governance materials.
  • Prepare presentations and management reporting for leadership teams, committees, and governance forums.
  • Analyze operational risk trends and business metrics to provide meaningful insights that support management decision-making.
  • Represent Business Unit Risk on projects, process improvement initiatives, system implementations, and business change efforts as assigned.
  • Identify opportunities to improve risk reporting, monitoring activities, and operational risk management practices through automation, analytics, and process enhancements.
  • Collaborate with Compliance, Internal Audit, Enterprise Risk Management, Legal, and business partners to support effective risk management practices across the organization.
  • Independently manage assigned work while keeping leadership informed of emerging risks, significant concerns, and opportunities requiring escalation or management attention.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • 3-5 years of experience in financial services, banking, trust, brokerage, audit, compliance, risk management, or related business functions.
  • 2-5 years of experience in operational risk management, audit, compliance, internal controls, fraud, or related disciplines.
  • Experience conducting risk assessments, analyzing operational issues, evaluating risk exposures, and developing risk-based recommendations.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, research, and critical-thinking skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage assignments and projects with minimal supervision.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate across all levels of the organization.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, and other reporting tools.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with business partners while providing constructive challenge and an independent risk perspective

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting trust, custody, retirement, brokerage, or banking operations.
  • Experience performing operational risk reviews, investigations, process evaluations, governance reporting, or risk monitoring activities.
  • Knowledge of operational risk management principles, risk reporting, governance practices, and control frameworks.
  • Experience with process mapping, workflow analysis, process improvement, or operational effectiveness initiatives.

Success in This Role

A successful Senior Risk Specialist:

  • Demonstrates the ability to independently manage assigned responsibilities while effectively partnering with the Business Unit Risk leadership team for guidance, prioritization, and escalation support.
  • Demonstrates sound judgment when identifying, analyzing, and escalating operational risks.
  • Serves as a trusted business partner by providing meaningful risk-based insights and recommendations.
  • Effectively communicates operational risk trends, concerns, and opportunities to stakeholders and leadership.
  • Identifies opportunities to improve processes, strengthen controls, and enhance operational effectiveness.
  • Balances business objectives with prudent risk management practices.
  • Proactively identifies emerging risks and elevates concerns before they become more significant issues.
  • Contributes to a strong culture of risk awareness, accountability, and continuous improvement across CSTB.

In addition to the salary range, this role is also eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities
