We are looking for a Specialist Software Engineer who is passionate about technology and the experiences it enables to join our thinkorswim charting backend development team. This is an opportunity to work on an innovative trading platform that delivers real‑time market data, charting services, and analytics at scale, while building reliable, high‑performance backend solutions that millions of active traders rely on every day. You’ll support complex backend design and implementation efforts in an agile environment, collaborating closely with cross‑functional engineering, product, and technology teams to evolve and maintain critical charting services. ▪ Design, develop, and deliver backend software solutions as part of an Agile Scrum team supporting real‑time charting and analytics capabilities.
▪ Collaborate with product owners and cross‑functional stakeholders to define and refine software requirements, including decomposing stories, designing features, and prioritizing technical work.
▪ Support and triage application issues, participating in production support and release activities to help build resilient, secure systems that minimize client impact.
▪ Deliver and maintain high‑quality backend services by applying sound engineering practices that support performance, scalability, and long‑term reliability.
What you have
Required Qualifications
▪ 1+ year of experience developing within the thinkorswim charting application ecosystem
▪ 1+ year of hands‑on experience with Java / J2EE, including both client‑and server‑side development
▪ Strong grounding in object‑oriented analysis and design (OOA/OOD) principles
▪ Solid understanding of concurrency, multi‑threading, and performance optimization
▪ Experience working with the Spring Framework
▪ Experience developing and supporting applications in Unix/Linux and Windows environments
▪ Experience with build, deployment, and test automation tools, including Gradle, Maven, TeamCity, and JUnit
▪ Experience working with relational databases and messaging systems
▪ Demonstrated ownership of core backend business logic and service components
▪ Experience designing, implementing, and evolving APIs and internal frameworks
▪ Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
